I shed a tear on Friday after hearing of Margaret's passing. The tear was not only that I will truly miss her, but a tear of happiness that I was fortunate enough to have known her. I met Margaret through my job at Thunder Bay District Housing. Although I have been employed by Housing for the past 26-1/2 years, I really got to know Margaret the past 13 years I managed Paterson Court. Margaret called me a couple of weeks ago and when I heard her voice, I remembered that she had recently celebrated yet another special birthday. I made plans to visit her within the next couple of days. I brought her a bouquet of flowers to brighten her day, but wouldn't you know it, it was Margaret who brought sunshine to my day with her tremendous spirit. We sat and talked about her rose gardens, her travels and her family...never a lull in conversation with Margaret. She spoke her mind, but with such graciousness that is very rare today. She was such a joy to all who met her. That particular day, I brought along a co-worker who had yet to meet Margaret, let alone anyone who reached her great age. My co-worker was thrilled to meet Margaret as I knew she would be. She looked forward to chatting with Margaret again. Little did we know that would be our last visit with her. I will remember our visit that day and others we had in the past with great fondness. Margaret was truly and one and only.
