Obituary for Mrs. Nancy Lee Johnston (Wickstrom)

Mrs. Nancy Lee Johnston (Wickstrom)
Nancy Lee Johnston (nee Wickstrom)

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear wife, mother, daughter, sibling, and aunt. At age 57, Nancy passed on Saturday June 23, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Nancy was born May 5, 1961 and attended local schools before pursuing a career in hairdressing. She worked for many years at the Eaton Beauty Salon then later opened the Harbourview Salon with a friend. Following that she took a custodial position with the Lakehead School Board of Education, finally achieving her dream job as cafeteria manager at Superior Collegiate Vocational Institute. She and her husband, Ben, loved their home, gardening, and their beloved dog Andy. She was extremely proud of her sons, David and Michael, and all of her grandchildren. She touched so many people with her warm heart, bubbly personality, and contagious laugh. She was loved by all who knew her. She was known for her wonderful cooking (nobody missed a meal at Nancy’s) and her creative mind when it came to furniture refinishing and crafts. She is survived by her husband Ben of 28 years; sons David (Sabrina) and Michael (Alana); grandchildren Abbey, Mason, Scarlet, Taylor, Jackson, and Olivia; mother Shirley Wickstrom; mother-in-law Katheryn Johnston; sisters Lynn (Rheal) Goulet, Heidi (Wayne) Takalo; brothers Bruce (Cindy) Wickstrom, Rob (Kate) Wickstrom; sister-in-laws Patsy Faulkner, Verna Connolly; brother-in-laws Maynard Johnston, Ronald Johnston; aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, and of course her special sisters of heart. Nancy was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Ray and Helen Peterson, paternal grandparents Gust and Elma Wickstrom and her father Arthur Wickstrom.

Nancy will be sadly missed and always remembered for her zest for life and her generous, giving nature. A celebration of life will be held at the North McIntyre Rec Centre, Government Road on Thursday June 28th between 1:00-4:00 pm (drop in). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society, MS Society, or St. Joseph’s Hospice in her name.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
