Obituary for Mrs. Saara Kristiina Gillson (Jaaskalainen)

GILLSON

On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, Mrs. Saara Kristiina Gillson (nee Jaaskalainen) passed away in Hogarth Riverview Manor, after battling a lengthy illness.

Saara was a hard-working, and at times a hard-headed, wife and mother and she loved her family dearly. Saara was born in Kemi, Finland and emigrated as a young girl with her parents, Onni and Vilma Jaaskalainen. They settled in Thunder Bay, where she would reside most of her life. Saara enjoyed extensive travelling in her youth, having worked her way for room and board, seeing much of North America and Europe in her early adult life. Saara married her husband, Ian and raised her two children, Patrick and Erika.

Saara will be deeply missed by her husband of 31 years, Ian; son Patrick Gillson and daughter Erika Gillson. Numerous cousins and other relatives also survive in Finland.

As per Saara's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Saara to the Alzheimer Society.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
