Obituary for Mr. Voldemar "Wally" Modris Reinsmith

WALLY REINSMITH
September 21, 1940 – May 15, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Voldemar (Wally) Modris Reinsmith, age 82 years of Kakabeka Falls, peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023 in St. Joseph's Hospice after a two year illness.

Wally was born on September 21, 1940 in Latvia. He came to Canada with his parents at the age of 8. They settled in Port Arthur where he attended Cornwall Public School and Selkirk High School. He worked as a ship hand on the “Hagerty” which hauled grain to Montreal for two years. He then began his career with Great Lakes Forest Products as a Haul Supervisor and retired from Huronian Timber.

Wally married Anita (Wiljala) and they were blessed with two daughters, Brenda and Sandra.

He enjoyed moose hunting with his Dad and was a fishing mentor to his grandsons, Jeff and Scott Burke. Fishing often extended well past midnight. He also had many legendary fishing adventures with his brother-in-law Karl Wiljala.

Wally and Anita enjoyed road trips to visit his Dad, in Chilliwack, B.C. and relatives in the United States. They also spent their retirement years camping at Whitefish Lake and driving with their
“Beetle” to Grand Marais.

He also had the “gift of gab” and a quick sense of humour, even with the nurses during his final days.

Wally will be deeply missed by his wife, Anita and his beloved daughters, Brenda (Jim Burke) and Sandra (Grant Hansen); six grandchildren, Erin (Russell) Sweitzer, Jeff, Scott and Neil Burke, Jenna Hansen (Jay Eisner) and Krista Hansen (Matt Peters); great-grandchildren Levi, Simone Burke, Rachel, Brooke and Aubrey Sweitzer and Finnigan Eisner. He will also be missed by his “furball” companion, Sam.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Wally to charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted
