Obituary for Mrs. Darlene Alexandra Oshkopekeda

DARLENE OSHKOPEKEDA

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Darlene Alexandra Oshkopekeda.

Darlene Oshkopekeda, age 75 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday May 13, 2023.

Darlene was born on January 27, 1948 in Lake Nipigon, Ontario. She grew up in Gull Bay First Nation and settled in Fort William First Nation with her husband Barney Oshkopekeda where they built their forever home.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially out at camp. Darlene enjoyed all things life had to offer her, she enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, and cheering on her favourite hockey team the Toronto Maple Leafs. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.

Darlene is survived by her son Stacey “Hud”; daughter Keri; grandchildren Kayla (Nick), Erica, Trenton, Mason and Kera; great grandchildren Darius, Evander, Dennis and Karina and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Barney.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Darlene Oshkopekeda will be held on Thursday May 18, 2023 with family and friends gathering at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:00am celebrated by Father Gerald McDougall. Visitation will be held in the family home at 119 Back Street, Fort William First Nation after 2:00pm Wednesday May 17, 2023.
