Obituary for Mrs. Elsie Marie Oleksuk

Elsie Marie Oleksuk
22 January 1936 - 22 March 2023

It is in great sadness that the Oleksuk family has to say goodbye to their mother, grandmother, and great grandmother,, Elsie Marie Oleksuk. Elsie passed away on 22 March 2023 after a short illness. She was born 22 January 1936 in the Township of Cloud Bay, the first of 4 children.

Elsie is survived by her beloved sons, Larry (Gayleen), Jerry (Barb), Billy (Shelley), and Danny (Keri); grandchildren Travis (Dana),,Ryan (Robyn), Nicole,,Emily, and Taylor, and great-grandchildren Harvey and Scarlett. Also left to mourn are her sisters Isabelle, Myrtle and Judy and her cousin Eleanor.

She was predeceased by her husband William, her parents Bill and Mary (Judy) Harmsworth, and grandchild Raelyn.

Elsie enjoyed her life in Thunder Bay. She had worked at Sears for 25 years, then retired so she and Bill could travel to their favourite spot, Florida. She was a passionate and caring woman who put on many miles following her children and grandchildren to sporting and dancing events. You could always find her at the ball diamond or hockey rink being their number one supporter. She enjoyed the company of all her close friends,,going on numerous trips with family and the 55Plus Club,, playing bingo, gambling at the casino and dancing. She was an active member of the Holy Cross Golden Agers and was presently the Secretary.. It was here that she met a great group of friends. Elsie's favourite pastime was when she could sit in her backyard and have happy hour with her friends after bingo.

Mom had a very fulfilling life, coming from very little growing up, but always felt she had everything that one would need. One of her favourite sayings to us was “Live life to the fullest" - which she surely did.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor – Unit 2 North for their wonderful care that was given during the time Mom was there.

A Celebration of Elsie's Life will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the West Thunder Community Centre, 915 Edward Street. A private family interment will take place in Cloud Bay Cemetery later. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Elsie to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

You will be missed by all!
