Obituary for Mrs. Claire Guitard (Arseneau)

GUITARD, Claire

It is with heavy hearts that our family announce the peaceful passing of our mother, aunt, nanny and great-nanny, Claire Guitard. Mom passed away on March 11, 2023 at Hogarth Riverview Manor. She was 85 years old. Claire was born on May 5, 1937 in Bathurst, New Brunswick to Cornelius and Clara Arseneau and was one of ten siblings. She married Joseph Guitard August 23, 1955 and moved her family from Bathurst, NB to Sault Ste. Marie, ON. While living in the Sault she worked at the local A & W where she made her way up from cook to manager. In 1969 the family moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario. In 1971 mom opened her home to daycare and did this for many years. She was the first privately owned home daycare in the city of Thunder Bay. She was a long time member of the Loyal Order of Moose where she received her Cap & Gown. Mother enjoyed her family and friends, played cards, loved to read, play bingo and girls night at the casino with her daughters. She is predeceased by her parents Cornelius and Clara; husband Joseph; brothers Billy, Charlie and Raymond; sisters Anita, Carol and Eva. She is survived by son Terry, daughters Sharyn (Ted), Michele (Rob), Susan (Jaye). Brothers Guy and Danny and sister Marie. Grandchildren: Nichole, Ryan, Ashley (Gordon) and Kelsey (Jason); great grandchildren Kamryn, Jackson and Sydney. Other nieces and nephews survive.

Cremation has taken place and keeping with moms wishes there will be no funeral service. A private burial will be held with the family at a later date.

At this time the family would like to thank the caring staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor, 5N and 4S for their compassionate care of mom.

If friends do desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue.
