Obituary for Miss Kathleen "Katie" Beda

Kathleen (Katie) Beda
September 20, 1989 – December 12, 2022

It is with saddened, but love filled hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Katie) Beda, on Monday December 12, 2022 at the age of 33. She was a treasured daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and most recently, a cherished aunt to her nephews Nicholas, Ethan, Ezra and her niece Rylee.

Katie was a loving and embracing person, who always put others needs ahead of her own. She was always extending an open heart and open ears to her family and friends. That love and kindness was also extended to all animals she encountered with an extra special place in her heart for her cats, Baco and Perch.

Growing up, Katie had many passions including figure skating, swimming, and camping. Her love for the outdoors and hanging out with her brothers lasted throughout her life. She loved adventure and travel. During her travels to Germany, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Australia, and most recently Portugal, she would fully immerse herself in the culture and would enjoy the unique beauty each country held.

Katie’s love of art started early in life, always being creative and expressive in everything she did. After graduating from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts. She found like minded friends, collaborators, and an arts community who she cherished and generously contributed her time and talents to. Working extensively with her close friend Lora, Katie was an active volunteer and board member of the Definitely Superior Artist Run Centre. Over the past 15 years she was essential to the success of hundreds of art exhibitions and events. She was also a founding member and mentor of a youth focused street art collective that has produced dozens of public murals throughout the region. Calculating her contribution and impact to the arts in Thunder Bay is immeasurable.

Katie’s unwavering dedication to the arts was trumped only by her devotion to her family and friends, of which she had so many. Few were not charmed by her brilliance, humour, beauty, and delightful eccentricities. She was a mix of chaos and kindness that added colour to every environment.

This was particularly true of her beloved job with Tomlin Restaurant where she worked with some of her closest friends and loved ones for the past eight years. Her coworkers held her as family: a truly incredible spark that brought laughter, light, and deep meaningful love to all.

She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Gary and Cathy Beda, brothers Matthew (Kayla) and Kevin (Ashley), nephews and niece Nicholas, Ethan, Ezra, and Rylee, grandmother, Janet Potvin and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers.

Funeral Services for Katie will be held on Monday December 19, 2022 at 10:00am in Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 7:00pm until 9:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thunder Bay District Humane Society or Thunder Bay Counselling.
