Obituary for Mr. Rinaldo Zen

RINALDO ZEN
1936 - 2022

With great sadness we announce the passing of Rinaldo Zen, 86, of Atikokan on November 28, 2022.

Born on January 17, 1936 in Chinchinigi, North Italy, Rinaldo worked multiple jobs such as farming, making cheese and milk from scratch, woodworking, and making chairs, and spoke several different Italian dialects. He moved to Canada at age 21 with little to no English. He taught himself the English language while working on the CN railroad for six years.

Most of his working career (37 years) was spent at the sawmill in Sapawe. He started out as a lumber piler and worked his way up to the best welder, millwright, and fabricator there ever was.

Rinaldo enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life: dancing, hunting, painting, woodworking (his White Otter Castle bird houses were a big hit!), but most of all, he loved fishing.

Rinaldo is survived by his wife Rose, children Ed, Mic (Jana), Donna (Philip), and Jordano (Amie); grandchildren Alex (Nate), Sean, and Nora; step-children Jimmy, Lisa (John), and Suzanne; step- grandchildren Connor, River, Jackson, Orella, and Matt Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Pia and Stanuslos, sister Gina and brothers Orlando and Angelo. He was the lone survivor of his family and a fighter at that.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 12, 2022 at 11:00am at the Atikokan Legion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

You will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.
