Obituary for Mrs. Marilyn Doris Romanetz
MARILYN DORIS ROMANETZ
June 12, 1960 – November 19, 2022
Surrounded by her loving family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Doris Romanetz, on November 19, 2022.
To cherish her memory, Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband Garry, of 26 years, and daughters Caley and Emma.
Marilyn is also lovingly remembered by her sisters and brothers: Lorraine (Frank), Florence (Keith), (Ron), Raymond (Beverley), Victoria (John), Nettie (Garry), (Linda), Colleen (Larry), Garry, Gayle (Domenic), brother-in-law Kevin (Margaret), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Nellie and Michael Romanetz, brothers Raymond Ernest and Robert (Bob) Romanetz, sister Carol Wall, nieces Karen and Stacey Romanetz, and parents-in-law Donna and Ian Harland.
Marilyn was born on June 12, 1960, and was raised in a large, Ukrainian family on a mixed farm near Ethelbert, Manitoba. As class valedictorian and Student of the Year, she graduated from Ethelbert Collegiate in 1978 and went on to earn a Dental Hygiene diploma from the University of Manitoba in 1980. As a natural, talented athlete, she won numerous awards while playing for the Manitoba and Winnipeg Women’s Rugby teams, as well as for Winnipeg based broomball and baseball teams.
Marilyn met Garry, the love of her life, at a broomball game. They married on October 5, 1996, in Winnipeg, and soon after re-located to Sioux Lookout where Garry pursued an opportunity with the Ministry of Natural Resources. Their daughters Caley Wynter and Emma Dawn were both born in Sioux Lookout. The family re-located to the Fort Frances area 5 years later, and then to Thunder Bay in 2009.
Marilyn had a diverse and impressive career in dental hygiene, working in various locations in Manitoba and Ontario. She travelled to northern reserves to provide dental assessments and preventive services, often with her children in tow, receiving the call of duty award from the Northwestern Health Unit in 2006. She was presently employed with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and taught dental hygiene and dental assistant students at Confederation College.
As the 3rd youngest child of 12, Marilyn developed a strong work ethic and a love for animals and nature. In her spare time she worked at Landale Gardens for several years, and cared for a large, beautiful garden and acreage at home. The family sunroom displayed many beautiful orchids and assorted house plants, including seedlings in the spring. Spending time with the family and dogs at the cabin in Red Lake., as well as fishing, hiking, and picking berries were much enjoyed past times.
Marilyn was hard working, strong and determined to succeed, no matter what - but also cheerful, lively, fun loving and always able to put a smile on your face. She was honourable, generous, and kind. Even through Marilyn’s illness, she displayed amazing strength, and courage, kindness, and appreciation.
Above all else, family was everything to her and she loved them dearly. Marilyn will always be loved, forever remembered, and deeply missed.
Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 with family and friends gathering in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:00am, celebrated by Father Jerin Louis.Interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery. A reception to follow is being planned with specifics TBA. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Marilyn to the Northern Cancer Fund (payable to TBRHSF) would be greatly appreciated.
