GORDON STURROCK

August 17, 1939 – October 31, 2022

Mr. Gordon Ralph Sturrock, age 83 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 31, 2022 in Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Gordon was born August 17, 1939 in Port Arthur to Edna and Robert Sturrock. He was raised and educated locally, but left school early to begin his career as a business owner. It all started with his bicycle and crates of soda that he would haul to the shipyards, climb aboard and sell to the ship workers. He delivered for a local pharmacy, and then worked as a printer for the News Chronicle. He then began S & H Enterprises which handled waste removal and operated as a courier service, which led to a contract with Canada Post for parcel delivery and eventually a new business, Thunder Bay Messenger and Transfer Limited. He also owned and operated Algoma Homestyle Laundry and RadMaster. Gordon was a self-made man with a tenacious entrepreneurial spirit that led to many successful adventures and many pilot projects.

Gordon met Annie (née Kasper) at a dance at the Polish Hall, they dated for a few years and were married May 7, 1960 and have spent the past 62 years together. They raised their three children, spending time as a family and taking many trips over the years to Calgary, Vancouver, Orlando and Duluth. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club and Easter Seals where he was able to give back to the community he loved. Somewhere in-between family and business, he learned to fly and earned his pilot's license, which led to Easter Seals Fly Days. As his children grew, Gordon was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he cherished. He delighted in being able to teach his grand kids to golf. Gordon was an outdoor enthusiast, he loved golfing, fishing, hunting, curling and canoeing.

Gordon will be forever missed by his loving wife, Annie; beloved children, Roxanne (William), Gordon (Nancy) and Robert (Bessie); 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Isabel Hawryliuk and Elaine Scarcello and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert.
