Obituary for Mr. Eric Vihtori Nyholm

Mr. Eric Vihtori Nyholm, age 99 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in Southbridge Roseview Manor.

Eric was born May 18, 1923 in Luvia, Finland. He was raised there and following his military service, married Anna Onerma on March 1, 1947. Soon after, they welcomed their daughter, Eila. As a family, they immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax in April 1952. They lived in Atikokan for a few years and then settled in Port Arthur. Eric was employed with Northern Wood Preservers as a lumber grader operator until his retirement in 1983.

Eric was a talented carpenter, and over the years he built six homes for his family in his “spare time”. As a young man he enjoyed running, and he and Anna spent many winters cross country skiing together. He enjoyed playing cribbage and meeting with the Finnish Veterans group for coffee. His favourite past time was watching old western movies. He loved his family and was so proud of all their accomplishments.

Survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Anna; daughter Eila (Jim) Pronger; grandsons, Sean Pronger and Chris (Lauren) Pronger and great grandchildren, Kaia, Vann, Jack, George and Lilah.
