Obituary for Mrs. Dorothy Myrtle Harrow (Jensen)

Dorothy Harrow
September 14, 1921 – September 30, 2022

Mrs. Dorothy Myrtle Harrow (nee Jensen), age 101 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, September 30, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family.

Dorothy was born on September 14,1921 in Biggar, Saskatchewan to Carl and Bertha Jensen. The family moved to Barnhart, just north of Emo, and then at the age of 19, Dorothy made her way to Thunder Bay. She attended Kings Business College and then took a job at Thunder Bay Coop Dairy where she worked for several years. Dorothy met Joseph Harrow and they were married in 1943. Joseph went off to war and Dorothy dedicated herself to taking care of their home and young daughter before expanding their family upon Joe's return from overseas. She was a wonderful homemaker and excellent cook. Dorothy enjoyed reading, and was very talented at sewing, cross stitching and knitting. She was well versed and up to date on all the current events and politics throughout the world.

Dorothy was a long time member of Corpus Christi Church and was a supporter of many church activities and causes over the years. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and an encouragement to Joseph as he became a Deacon within the Parish. Mom was kind, loving and patient. She was a steadfast pillar to everyone and her presence was always felt. She will be deeply missed by all.

Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Virgina (Paul) Leavey, Deborah Kennedy, Maureen (Jerry) Mendek, Joseph (Diane), Michael (Paivi) and Patrick; special grandchildren Colleen (Joe), Brian, Amanda (Ben), Kenneth (April), Sarah, James, Michelle (Brett), Rachel, Nicole (Ryan) and Tim (Amanda) as well as her cherished great-grandchildren Lily, Foster, Eli, Xander, Jazmine, Lexi, Pheonix, Kai, Wyatt, Hayden, Mackenzie, Tessa and Eva. She is also survived by her dear sister Alma Lambert as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph; her parents Carl and Bertha Jensen; sister Joan Nielsen and 2 brothers in infancy, Donald and Stanley Jensen; grandson Christopher Harrow and son-in-law Michael Kennedy.

A private family service was held and interment has taken place in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations to Northern Cancer Fund Thunder Bay (payable to TBRHSF) in memory of Dorothy Harrow would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
