Obituary for Mr. Innes Enso Sakchekapo

Innes Enos Sakchekapo
May 25, 1946 – July 11, 2022

On July 11, 2022 at 8:59 p.m. (est) Innes Enos Sakchekapo of North Caribou Lake First Nation passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

Innes Enos Sakchekapo was orphaned at an early age and was raised by his grandmother, Emma Sakchekapo, supported by the older siblings and extended family of North Caribou Lake First Nation. Innes was born on May 25, 1946 in Round Lake. He was 76 years old. Innes worked as a CHR for over 30 years and retired at age 65. He was involved in the community in various capacities such as a Chief, Councillor, Board member and was very active in community events and businesses, particularly Family Week, Local NEF church, Weagamow Airways and other airline initiatives. He was a Supervisor of ONA Store since 1996. He also served as a Board Member at Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority approximately 10 years. He loved outdoors and exercised his hunting, fishing and trapping.

The late Innes Enos Sakchekapo is survived by his daughters: Irene Johnup (Tony), Doris Quequish, Emily Kanakakeesic (Simon), Ruby Sakchekapo, his boys: Cody and Liam Kenequanash. Siblings: Caleb Sakchekapo (Greta), Sarah Quequish, Harry Sakchekapo, Raymond Adams (Beatrice), Caroline Quequish, Lucy Adams (Billy), Phyllis Morriseau (Pierre). In-laws: Isiah Kanate, Leah Quequish (Beardy), Jenosa Sainnawap, Ida Fiddler (David), Amos Keeash (Elsie). He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members.

He is predeceased by his Father James Sakchekapo; Mother Penia (nee Quequish); his first wife Notah Sakchekapo and his second wife, Victoria Sakchekapo, his grandparents Emma Sakchekapo, Sena Sakchekapo, customary care parents Tommy and Eva Adams. His children Andrew Sakchekapo, Judy Sakchekapo and Jarrett Kenequanash, brother: Thomas Adams, sisters: Ina Kanate, Sadie Chikane; in-laws Isaac Chikane, William Quequish, Maio Quequish and numerous extended family members.

Innes will be missed dearly by his children, grand children and great great grandchildren as well as extended family and friends. He was a man of compassion and was a great role model to all. He was a passionate advocate for improved health services and supported business and economic development in the community.

A viewing service was held on, July 14, 2022 at 3 pm at the WESTFORT - EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, with Pastor Neil Otke officiating. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service.

Funeral Services will be held at the Native Evangelical Fellowship in North Caribou Lake First Nation on July 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor (s) Jerry Quequish and Ivan Wapenisk officiating. He will be laid to rest at the North Caribou Lake cemetery.
