Obituary for Mrs. Linda Olive Pickett

Linda Pickett

Mrs. Linda Olive Pickett (nee Baxendale), age 73 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, July 7, 2022.

Mom was born in Toronto on November 15, 1948. She grew up as the third oldest of 9 children. She met and fell in love with Danny Pickett while working at Lux Time. Mom and Dad worked hard to make a life for themselves, eventually moving to Pickle Lake in 1972. Unfortunately Dad passed away in 1978, but Mom carried on to make a good life for us kids as a meteorologist, teacher and above all, a true entrepreneur. She constantly reinvented her business based on the needs of the Pickle Lake Community, from a restaurant to a hairdressing shop, and finally a Bed and Breakfast. Mom enjoyed crafting, thrifting, gardening and when she had the opportunity, loved to bake with her grandkids. She was very social and people were drawn to lengthy conversations with her. Although Mom endured many hardships throughout her life, she stayed positive and kept the motto, “It can always be worse.” The deep love she had for her children and family was unwavering and it showed through her dedication to all of them. She was always there to help anyone in need in anyway she possibly could. Mom was a big presence in everyone's lives and a void is left in our hearts.

Mom is survived by her children Trent, Colin (Trina), Jennifer "Jenny" Crane and Joel Hodge; grandchildren Danny (Rachel) Campbell, Gregory (Amanda), Mitchell, Kate, Kylan, Tanner Crane and Taylor Crane; great-grandchildren Teddy, Quinn and Kennedy; siblings Marilyn Wocks, Teresa “Terry” Muir (Robert), Leonard, Lenore "Ruth" (Arnold) and Ronald (Marion); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is now at peace and in the arms of the loved ones who went before her and whom she deeply missed. She was predeceased by her husband Danny; parents Ronald and Olive; granddaughter Kiera; siblings Robert, Diane and James "Jimmy"; nephew Robert "Bobby"; sister-in-law Penny as well as her son-in-law Jody Crane.

As per Linda's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will take place. If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Linda to the Salvation Army or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
