Obituary for Mr. Ronald "Ron" William Olofson
Mr. Ronald "Ron" William Olofson, age 83 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in TBRHSC, with his wife by his side.
Ron was born in Sioux Lookout on February 22, 1939. He was a true Minnesota Vikings fan since they joined the NFL in 1961, a pickerel fisherman, a curler and a golfer. His working career started with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce working in Balmertown/Red Lake, Gillam Manitoba and Port Arthur. Then he worked at Provincial Papers until retirement. Always looking to the future, Ron took courses in Income Tax Preparation; helping many before retiring and having acquired many clients, carried on as a Tax Preparer until 2 years ago. He made many friends during his lifetime and remembered them often. His Income Tax clients became friends as well. He was active with the Men’s Club at St. Stephen’s and the Norrskenet Society. He was President of the Balmertown Kinsmen in the early 1970’s. When Ron took on a task, he did it whole-heartedly.
Ron will be missed by his loving wife of 24 years, Gail; stepson Trevor (Ellen) Lee, grandchildren Joshua Marshall, McKenna Lee and Tyler Lee; sister-in-law Ruth Olafson and nephew David Olafson; nieces Karen (Leo) Larocque and family, and Cindy (Myron) Dodds and family; brother-in-law Gary (Doreen) Everett.
He was predeceased by his parents Hilma and Fred, brothers Ole and Karl, sister-in-law Shirley, nephew Chris, and stepdaughter Penny.
As per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on June 1. Attendees are asked to meet at the main gates to process to the grave at service time. Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Ron to St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church, 494 Leslie Avenue, Thunder Bay or The Underground Gym would be appreciated.
