Obituary for Mr. Eugene David Thompson

The Family of Eugene Thompson is saddened to announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the age of 55 years.

Eugene was born in Beardmore, Ontario on September 25, 1966 and grew up in Macdiarmid (Rocky Bay), Ontario. As a teenager, he played the character of Minnow Shebagabow in the Indigenous TV show Spirit Bay, and would go on to joke that he could have been famous had he not caused so much trouble in his youth—but trouble was his middle name. He was almost impossible to catch though, which is where he got his nickname “Neepneep” from: the sound made by Looney Tunes’ Road Runner. Besides his inclination towards mischief, Eugene was fond of the outdoors; especially being on the lake and camping, so much so that he even had an island on Lake Nipigon, near his hometown named after him: Neepneep Island. Eugene loved his family and friends very much and when he was home, he could often be found watching a Toronto Maple Leafs game with one of his many cousins or friends, or outside playing road hockey or basketball with his sons Talbot and Eugene Danny.

Eugene is survived, and will be sadly missed by his children Taylor (Patrick), Kyrstyn, Talbot, and Eugene Danny; his grandchildren Savannah, Mitchell and Ryley; his mother Clara; his siblings Wanda (Leonard), Keith, and Kevin; his aunts Shirley, Jean (Enio), Beverly (Pete), Theresa (Ted), Stephanie, and his uncle Joseph “Joey”; nieces and nephews: Troy, Shaleah, Jada, Nathan, Kayla, Lennzi-May, Winter, Ocean, River, and Courtney; his great nieces and nephew Willow, Nathan Jr., Noa, Khalani and Khali. Eugene was loved and will be missed by many friends, including the mother of his three youngest children, Dana.

He was preceded in death by his father David; his brothers Sean and Gerald (Ellen); his aunt Virginia and uncle Ernest; and a nephew, Marcus.

As per Eugene's wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered . A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 24th, from 1:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m in Everest Waverley Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 27th at 2:00pm in the Community Center in Macdiarmid, Ontario.
