It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald John Drebit Sr. after a brief battle with cancer at T.B.R.H.S.C on Tues., April 19 at the age of 81.
Don was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 23, 1940. He came to Thunder Bay in 1952 and later met Joan, the love of his life. They were married for 59 years until she predeceased him June 30, 2020. Don worked at Great Lakes Forest Products (Resolute) for many years until he retired. After retirement he had his dream job of running a hunting and fishing lodge for 11 years.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend and enjoyed spending time with family and neighbours and will be missed by all especially his beloved Bella. He loved the great outdoors and fishing was his passion.
Don is survived by his children Donald Jr. (Debbie), Dale (Patti) and Patty Blimkie (Deric), grandchildren Danielle (Kyle), Stephanie (Rob), Justin (Brittany), Jamie, Jason and Sean, great grandchildren Hailey, Chace, Ethan, Madison, Levi and Sawyer. Also survived by siblings Pat Weaver, Bill (Pat) and Barbara Nixon (Rick). Predeceased by wife Joan, brother Peter and parents John and Olga.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at St. Agnes Church (1019 Brown St.) on Wed. April 27 at 1:15 pm for both Don and Joan (together again). A social gathering is to follow after mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
