Obituary for Mrs. Margaret Roberts (Rand)

Margaret Roberts (nee Rand), long time resident of Cambrian Crescent, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 2, 2022, with her son, Darryl by her side.

Born December 8, 1939 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England to Henry George and Kathleen Violet Rand. She was raised on the family farm, “Hill Farm” along with her two brothers in Ashendon, Buckinghamshire, England.

In her early years in England she worked in a dental office. She eventually met and married Tom Roberts on August 6, 1960 in Ashendon, and together they raised their two sons. In search of a better life, they emigrated to Canada along with Bob, the family dog, arriving in Canada on April 28, 1974.
When the family first arrived in Canada, Margaret was a stay-at-home Mum, but returned to work working in several daycare centres in the city, eventually securing employment at the Canada Games Complex in the daycare department where she worked until her retirement. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed and where she made many long lasting friendships.

After Tom suffered a stroke, Margaret was devoted to looking after him. Following Tom’s death Margaret remained independent and continued with their tradition of playing the cribbage circuit at various community centres throughout the city. She continued to play cribbage until the pandemic shut that down.

Margaret enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved to spend time with family and enjoyed a glass of wine now and again.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Bryan (Michelle) and Darryl (Leslie); grandchildren, Bryanne (Greg) Komoski, Daniel Roberts, Nicole (Adam) Gamble and Madison Roberts (Dave Busby and children, Cameron, Brooke and Ethan) and four great-grandchildren, Harken and Rori Gamble and Brooklyn and Krew Komoski. She is also survived by her sisters in-law, Anne (Mike) Oakins, Pam Rand and Shirley Rand, along with several nieces, nephews and other extended family in England.

She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 2010, parents brothers, David “Joe” in 2012 and Harry in 2020.

The family would like to thank Mother’s friends and neighbours on Cambrian Crescent for their kindness and assistance provided to her, especially during the pandemic. We cannot thank you enough for all that you have done.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James. Private interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, where Margaret and Thomas will be laid to rest together.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
