Obituary for Mr. Alex Venasky

ALEX VENASKY
June 16, 1927 – March 18, 2022

With saddened hearts, the family of Mr. Alex Venasky, age 94 years, announces his peaceful passing in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Alex, or Pappa as he was known to many, was born on June 16, 1927 in Blake Township, where he was a lifelong resident, remaining in his home right up until his final days. He married Pearl Osipenko on August 30, 1947 and they raised four children together. Alex was a dairy farmer until 1976. He then worked at CanCar, drove school bus and was security at Old Fort William Historical Park until he retired. Alex truly enjoyed farming and working on the farm, as well as woodworking, gardening, reading, bird watching and tinkering, as he was handy and could fix anything. He loved to tell jokes and listen to Western music. He also had a passion for animals and his many pets.

One of Alex's proudest achievements was being able to ride his motorcycle until the age of 85 years, only stopping when he could no longer get insurance.

Above all else, Alex's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he looked forward to spoiling with treats at every opportunity. He supported his family at all of their events including: swimming, football, hockey, car racing, musical performances, karate and much more. He was a hardworking, strong and loving man, who would do anything for family, friends, neighbours and those around him. He will be deeply missed.

Alex is survived by his four children: son Don (Carol) Venasky and daughters Linda Simpson, Debbie (Don) Fawcett and Janice McCoy; eight grandchildren: Scott (Chrissy) Simpson, Rick (Jessica) Simpson, Lori (Robert) Wronowski, Colin (Jessica) Venasky, Donald (Kaitlyn) Fawcett, Nicole (Adam) DeLong, Daryl (Amy) McCoy and Gary (Nadine) McCoy. This intern also added fifteen great-grandchildren: David (Justine) Simpson, Jessica (AJ) Walker, Courtney Simpson and Jordyn Simpson, Megan Wronowski and Matthew Wronowski, Paige Venasky and Sophie Venasky, Jace DeLong and Brianna DeLong, Logan McCoy, Mason McCoy, Denon McCoy, Tricia McCoy and Noah McCoy. Alex was also proud of his new 5th generation great-great-granddaughter, Ainsley Simpson. He is also fondly remembered by Kari Simpson, his dear friends Jack, Teddy and Muriel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and so many other friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Pearl; his parents Harry and Dora Venasky; his sister Mary (Stephen) Lesovich and his brothers John (Sophie), Bill (Nellie) and Steve (Louise) Venasky; son-in-law Ken McCoy and good friend Ann Swanton.

A special thank you to Lori, Megan and Donald for looking after Poppa's cat, Polly. Heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at TBRHSC-2B for all of your care and compassion shown to Alex and our entire family.

Funeral Services for Alex will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 2:30pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. A private interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the Chapel.

For those unable to attend, a video recording of the service will be available on the Everest of Thunder Bay website, beginning on Friday morning.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Alex to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

A limb has fallen from our family tree
That says grieve not for me
Remember the best time, the laughter, the song
The good life I lived when I was strong

Love you. Forever in our Hearts.
