Obituary for Mrs. Pietje "Patricia" Dykstra (Gysen)

Mrs. Pietje”Patricia” Dykstra (nee Gysen), age 91 years, passed away peacefully to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in Hogarth Riverview Manor, with her 6 children by her side.

Our Mom was born in St. Nicolaasga, Friesland, The Netherlands on August 20th, 1930. She immigrated with her family to Fort William on June 27, 1949. She married Jan “John” Dykstra on August 31, 1952 and they shared 63 ½ years together, until his passing on March 17, 2016. They settled in Vickers Heights, where they raised their family.

Our Mom loved keeping her hands busy. She baked delicious treats and made the best Sunday Soup. She crocheted, knit and sewed for her family. Mom loved to tend to her gardens and indoor plants. She was a sweet, kind, compassionate, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother. sister, sister in law and friend.

Mom is survived by her children and their spouses: Ophelia and Jim Agombar, Len and Annette (St.Catharines, ON), Theresa and Fritz Jaspers, Alice and Jim Howe (Woodstock, ON), Nancy and Jerry Veurink and Michael and Lorrie. She was a proud Grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Evert (Lorraine) Gysen; sister Joan (Ed) Gayoski; sister in law Corry Gysen; as well as numerous other relatives.

She was predeceased by her husband John, infant son Leonard Michael (1956), her parents Mechiel and Oepkjen Gysen, brothers Bernard and Don Gysen and sister in law Penny Gysen.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Patricia Dykstra will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 2:00pm in the First Christian Reformed Church, 9 Cooper Road where she was one of the founding members and was part of the church family for 72 years. Pastor Gerrit Haagsma officiating. A private family interment will precede the service in Stanley Hill Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday February 21, 2022 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm in the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. The funeral service will also be live streamed at FirstCRC Thunder Bay on youtube.com

As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority, COVID protocols are still being applied in group settings. Capacity is limited to allow for social distancing, a record of attendance must be maintained and wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone is required for those attending the services.
