Obituary for Mr. James "Jim" Lucas

JAMES LUCAS
July 23, 1930 – December 31, 2021

Jim passed away peacefully Friday, December 31, 2021.

He was born in Port Arthur, and attended Current River School, and Port Arthur Technical Institute. He was employed at Bennett's Bakery when he was 16 years old, and the Canada Safeway. He was promoted to Meat Manager in Winnipeg, and then was Meat Supervisor for Codville Company out West.

Jim moved back to the Lakehead, and became Meat Manager of Dominion Stores, both County Fair and Northwood. He was also in Real Estate for many years, both in Thunder Bay and in Winnipeg.

Jim and Jolene (nee Gordon) were married in Trinity United Church on November 18, 1967, and together raised their 3 little sons – Jay, Jan, and Joel. Jim and Jolene did everything together and enjoyed everything they did, including travelling – and they always included their 3 sons.

Jim was always honest, direct, and hardworking, and he provided strong guidance to his sons, and much strength for Jolene. He took much pride in his yard and everything had to be perfect. He could always handle anything that happened with his great inner strength.

In his younger years, he was in the Boy Scouts at St. Paul's United Church where his parents sang in the choir; served in the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment and Sea Cadets Naval Reserve.

Jim will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Jolene and their 3 sons, Jay Joseph Lucas of Nipigon, Jan Patrick Lucas of Thunder Bay, and Joel Anderson Lucas of Thunder Bay. He is also survived by his son, James Richard Lucas (Barbara) of Winnipeg; daughter, Debra Jane Lucas of Winnipeg; and son Darren John Lucas (Betti Ann) of Libau, Manitoba. Grandchildren, one great grandchild, nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Helen and William Lucas; 2 sisters, Irene Bjornson of Thunder Bay and Flora Kancir of Kapuskasing; 3 brothers, Art Lucas, George Lucas, and Gordon Lucas who was killed in the Korean War. Also predeceased by his grandson Corey Lucas of Winnipeg; his mother and father-in-law, Marguerite and Joseph Patrick Gordon.

Private graveside services and interment, will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens, on Tuesday January 4, 2022. EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, in care of arrangements.

Jim will be especially missed by his wife Jolene. He fought so hard, right until the end, but now he is at peace and under God's care. Jim and Jolene will still always be together forever. He believed and gave Jolene such strength, and as he said ..., “Have faith, and everything will be alright!”.
