Obituary for Mrs. Vivian (Vieno) Treichler (Niivila)

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Mother and Muumu, Vivian Vieno Treichler (nee Niivila) on November 4, 2021 at the age of 95.

Vivian was very proud of her Finnish heritage, and proud to say she was born on February 18, 1926 in a snowstorm in a sauna in Lappe. She was a very hard worker and had a great joy in creating many socks, mittens and sweaters that her family and friends will cherish forever. Her awesome knitting skills allowed her to look at something and then knit it without a pattern. She was an expert crib and scrabble player, in some cases you would wonder how she knew some words that she played and collected points for. Vivian was a strong believer in The Lord, and regularly attended Grace Church.

Survived by her children, Mitch (Kim), Doug (Carol) and Stanley; grandchildren, Mitchell II, Tressa (Kyle), Jacob and Madeline. She was very pleased when she became a great grandmother for the first time with the birth Sophia in early 2021. Also survived by her sister, Aune Roper and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by her parents, Oskari and Hilda Niivila, sister Edna Pykari, brother Olavi Niivila; nephew Lorne Pykari and niece Lorna Lehvonen.

Funeral services for the late Vivian Treichler will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in Grace Church, (289 Court Street North). Interment will take place at 1:00pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 in Riverside Cemetery.

As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, COVID protocols are still being applied in group settings. Capacity is limited to allow for social distancing of 6 feet, a record of attendance must be maintained and wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone is mandatory for those attending the services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to Grace Church in Vivian's Memory.
