Obituary for Mr. Adolph John Tenkula

Adolph Tenkula
May 17, 1936 – October 31, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce Mr. Adolph John Tenkula, aged 85 years, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

Adolph was born in Fort William on May 17, 1936 to Adolph and Jennie (nee Kosola) Tenkula. Adolph, along with his brothers and sisters, were raised out on the farm in Lybster township just south of Nolalu, Ontario.

In the early years, he worked in the bush for a family friend, Nestor Kotala, and then for Abitibi.  He enlisted in the Canadian Army in April of 1956 where he served in Canada and in Europe until December 1959. He then worked for Ogilvies (Industrial Grain Products) as an operator and later Supervisor until his retirement in 1995.

Adolph is survived by his sons Dwayne Tenkula and Darren Tenkula (Janet Ruby), his daughters Denise Tenkula (Bruno Rosenberg) and Debra Hitz (Daren Fellner); Grandsons Nickolas Tenkula, Ryan Tenkula, Lance and Donovan Hitz, Granddaughters Robyn Tenkula and Mika Tenkula; sibling Karen (Jack) McPhail along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Predeceased by his parents, his brothers Humbert and Teddy and his sister Mabel (Oiva) Oinonen.

Adolph enjoyed spending time at the camp in Silver Mountain, hunting and fishing. He also spent much of his time enjoying the company of family and friends where there was plenty of humorous stories to be told. In his later years he enjoyed being in his home, watching TV and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Canadian Guards Association and the Canadian Legion.

Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid, a small private family gathering will be held for Adolph and interment will take place at a later date in Leeper Cemetery.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
