Obituary for Mrs. Frances Yakimoski (Bednaz)

In the early morning of Friday, October 1, 2021 Frances Yakimoski passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Born May 8, 1923 on the farm in Brooksby, Saskatchewan (Sec3, Tp47, Rge16, W2nd, Sask), she was the eldest of 7 children. She attended Willow Valley School and completed High School through correspondence courses.

Mom moved to Fort William to work at Canada Car as one of the many “Rosie the Riveter’s”. Later while attending McKellar Hospital Nurses Assistance course, she met the love of her life Johnnie. They were married in 1953 and enjoyed 49 years together until his passing in 1999.

Mom enjoyed being a wife, mother, sister and a good friend to many. Her passion was her large garden growing many vegetables but she most enjoyed her flowers. She was famous for her homemade pickles.

Her faith was very important to her. She joined St. Margaret’s Parish and the CWL when it was a new parish 61 years ago.

She is survived by her daughter Darlene (Joey), sisters Wilma, Emily, Rochelle, brother Joe as well as numerous nieces and nephews and Joey’s family.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Josephine, sister Wanda (in infancy), sister Petrunela (Nellie) and brother Henry, her in-laws Michael and Irene, sister-in-law Mary and brothers-in-law Ralph, Earl, Jack and Barrie.

Thank you to Dr. James Colquhoun for the many years he took care of Mom and Dr. Lauren Sinnemaki in recent years. Thank you to the ambulance attendant’s, the doctors and nurses of the emergency ward and A1 at TBRHSC. A very special thank you to Dr. Andrew Migay and all the nursing staff at St. Josephs Palliative Care and Hospice units. You treated Mom with dignity and respect. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
