Obituary for Mr. Glenn Murray Martin

MARTIN, Glenn Murray
February 5, 1941 – June 5, 2021

Mr. Glenn Murray Martin, age 80 years, passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

The son of the late Ernest and Muriel Martin of Hamilton, ON, Glenn is predeceased by Carol, his loving wife of 53 years; sisters Velma Gavey and June-Marie Provost; brother Robert Martin; and brothers-in-law and best friends Ralph Gavey, Jim Burrows and Ross McDonald.

He is survived by his children David (Susan) of Thunder Bay, ON, Cindy of Vancouver, BC; his grandchildren Breanne, Bradley, Nicole and Jack; siblings Marlene Burrows, Myrna-Gail McDonald, Gord (Linda) Martin and Doug (Karen) Martin; brother-in-law Terry Provost; and sister-in-law Nancy Ricketts (Richard). He will be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.

Glenn enjoyed a 35 year career at the Province of Ontario Savings Office, where he held the position of Regional Manager of Central Ontario, being given the opportunity to work all over Ontario. He especially enjoyed his time transitioning the branches from paper to computer based banking, consulting with small communities in Northern Ontario for their banking services and the many colleagues who became lifelong friends.

Glenn’s retirement was robust, and characterized by global travel with Carol, where they enjoyed learning about different countries and cultures, as well as sampling great food and wine. He fully embraced his role as Grandpa, not letting distance get in the way of having a close relationship with his kids and grandkids. A sarcastically said, “Oh Grandpa”, was a common refrain from the grandkids.
Glenn lived a full and wonderful life, with incredible zest. He recently moved to Thunder Bay ON to live with David and Susan and was excited about his new surroundings. Ultimately, he was a romantic and never truly recovered from the passing of his wife, Carol in 2018. May they share a bottle of wine, while cheering us on from above.

Respecting Glenn's wishes private funeral services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Sunnybrook Foundation Palliative Care or Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation in Glenn’s name.
