Obituary for Mr. Leslie Nagy

It is with deepest sympathies that we announce the passing of a dear husband, brother, step-dad and papa, Leslie Nagy. Leslie passed away peacefully at Bethammi Nursing Home, Thunder Bay, on June 1, 2021 with family by his side.

Leslie was born in Nagyatad, Hungary on January 16, 1937 where he grew up surrounded by loving parents, sisters, brother, aunts and uncles. In 1955 Leslie graduated from Csurgon Secondary School.
Shortly after graduation Leslie was stationed in Hungary and then Italy where he was promoted to office secretary, this due to his knowledge of languages and beautiful penmanship.

In 1966 Leslie left Italy and headed to United States and then immigrated to Canada in 1968. Leslie worked in various jobs in Northwestern Ontario (mining, roofing and lumber industries) along with a stint in Greenland, which provided him with a wide-range of skills in various trades. Amongst all his travels, Leslie loved Mexico, not missing an opportunity to travel there during the winter months.

In 1984 Leslie married the love of his life Irma (Kerekes) Nagy and through this union became step-dad to two girls (Christina and Sylvia) then Papa to four grandchildren (Tylor, Brianne, Sara, Brandon), which he loved so much. In the pre-school years Leslie dedicated a day in the week called ‘Papa’s day’. This day was so special to the grandchildren providing a lifetime of memories.

Also special, were coffee days with his dear friends, with great conversation, political arguments and a lot of laughter. If you were lucky to meet Leslie you knew how natural it was for him to welcome you, to engage in conversation and considered you friend, without hesitation. His step-daughters and husbands, his grandchildren, their friends, boyfriends/girlfriends were loved unconditionally, he was always so kind and giving.

Leslie had a studious persona, he loved books, had the ability to learn languages, he had a thirst for learning. When visiting Leslie, you quite often found him in his study reading history, current events or memorizing the Spanish dictionary. If not in his study, he was in his beloved garden. Conversations with Leslie were informative and captivating and the yield from his garden were enjoyed by his grandchildren throughout the years.

Leslie will be lovingly remembered by by his wife, Irma Nagy; his children, Sylvia and Dave (Smith), Chris and Al (Dusang); his grandchildren, Sara, Brianne (Smith), Tylor/Jess, Brandon (Dusang).
