Patricia (Patti)Jean Shelley Harris
1949- 2021

Having to deal with the realities of Bulbar ALS, I have chosen not to allow it to dictate the conditions or
timing of my passing from this life. It was natural for me to look for the good in all circumstances. With the
support of my forever partner, soulmate and best friend, my David, I have chosen to give
"the gift of life" to others, through organ donation.

The focus of my life has been to help others through my teaching career, especially in special education,
and volunteer work, particularly with the TBRHSC "HELP" program.

I have lived life to the fullest through the supreme enjoyment of the simple things: reading, singing,
summer/winter sports, long walks, yardwork, beer in the sun, saunas with good scotch and dark chocolate,
leisurely picnic boat rides, paddling my canoe, world travels and living for two years in Sweden.

The joy of Shebandowan life has provided me the beauty and serenity of nature. For David and I, it
is where our souls became one. It is also where I have chosen to spend eternity. I would wish every person
on this planet could be as blessed as I have been.

My warmest love to all my family, friends and relatives. You have enriched my life. All combined, it has made
for an incredible journey. In keeping with my request, there will be no formal service or memorial. I do encourage
all to reflect upon and consider organ donation.

A very special thank you to Dr. Christen Shoesmith and her entire team at the London University Hospital
and St. Joseph's care group for helping David and me deal with the realities of ALS. I also wish to say thank you
to Dr. Valente, Dr. Turner, Kiley Perrier (Trillium Foundation), Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and medical team for making my final wish a reality.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.

Patti, there are no words. Most amazing beautiful soul and you have been there for me ever since I was a little baby. Just next door at Shebandowan you and David are a piece of me and the reason I look up to enjoy life to my fullest. David, I am so sorry, but grateful you had each other.

David, we are so sorry for your loss. We so enjoyed the dinners we shared, and will remember Patti for her enthusiasm for life, her ‘tips’ for travel and suggestions for books worth reading. A lifetime together is never enough, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

Patti Harris was a good friend and excellent teacher who I enjoyed working with at Balsam School where she was the Special Ed teacher and I was a Primary teacher. Patti had a the ability to understand and help these special children.

So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult. Met Patti through singing with Sweet Adelines and loved her enthusiasm for life and everything in it. Of course, there is a distant relative connection as well.
