Sylvia Thelma Cheryk
(nee Duchminsky)
1936 -2021

With heavy hearts and utter sadness we regret to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and “Baba” Sylvia on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021, with family by her side. She was born on November 5, 1936 in Minnedosa, Manitoba. She spent several years in the hospitality industry as a waitress for the Royal Edward Hotel. Sylvia later became a Dietary Aid at Hogarth Westmount Hospital up until her retirement at 65. Sylvia was loved and highly respected by her colleagues as well as the patients. She had an amazing way of making people laugh and brightening their day.

Our mother was an avid cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family, which always kept them coming back for more. As a very devoted Catholic, she was an active and honorary member of the Catholic Women’s League via St. Patrick's Cathedral. She enjoyed spending time with her soul mate of 35 years Everett Barrett including travel, dancing and casino fun. Sylvia with be remembered for her spunkiness and infectious laughter which was larger than life. She was a loving mother and doting “Baba” to her grand children and great grandchildren.

Sylvia is survived by her beloved partner Everett Barrett, her loving children Len (Edie) Cheryk, Cindy (Stan)Wrigley, David Cheryk (Kim Hagen), Nadine Cheryk (Blair MacNeill) and Mike Cheryk. Also, “Baba” to her beautiful grandchildren, Catherine (Chris), Jamie, Steven (Zhen), Stacy, Christine (AJ), Jennifer, Ashya, Matthew, Nathan, Jasmine, Patrick and great grandchildren Lucius, Victoria, David, Anthony, Alexander, Logan, Oliver and Daya.

She is predeceased by her father Matt and Mother Thelma, sisters Mary, Anne, Margaret, Helen, Stella, Antonette, and brothers Mike and Eugene.

Special thanks to Dr. Skunta and the staff of 2 North Lavender at Hogarth Riverview Manor for all the special care given to mom by the nursing staff. Our mother is now in heaven with her family lovingly watching over us.
