Obituary for Joan Elizabeth Soanes (McCormack)

The family of Joan Elizabeth Soanes, age 83 years, announce her peaceful passing in St. Joseph's Hospital on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
 
Joan was born in Port Arthur on July 25, 1937 to Doris and Thomas McCormack. 

She held jobs in insurance, The Thunder Bay Health Unit and Lakehead University as well as a business in optical dispensing. Joan was also tireless in providing support to her husband and was an equal partner in his career. She was an avid reader and her interests included world politics, film and entertainment and a myriad of books written by brilliant authors. 

Joan loved her family very much and all of her life was a constant mentor and devoted friend to her children and grandchildren.  

Joan also loved going on trips to various casinos with her sisters, whom she adored. 
 
Joan is survived by her son Brian Soanes; daughters Rhonda Soanes; Sharleen Slator and Debbie Scott and granddaughters Elizabeth MacAlpine, Allison Soanes Park; and grandsons, Ian MacAlpine, Barry Slator and Ross Slator and great grandchildren Lilly MacAlpine, Jack MacAlpine, Jalen Soanes, Elias Soanes Park.
Joan is also survived by her sisters, Maureen Nichols, Sharon Hogg, (Bill), Lynn Doran (Ray), and her brothers, Thomas McCormack, (Pauline), Barry McCormack, Darcy McCormack, (Debbie) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins 
 
She is predeceased by her parents Doris and Thomas McCormack; brother Montague, grandson Darryl Soanes and daughter-in-law Valerie Soanes. 
 
As per Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
 
If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Joan to The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
