Obituary for Mavis Helen Seed

It is with deep sadness that the family of Mavis Seed, age 82 years, announce her peaceful passing at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tuesday March 9, 2021.

Mom sadly left us but happily stepped into Heaven when God took her hand.

Mom was born in Restoule, Ontario, one of seven children of Thomas and Blanche Birch.
She attended Jumbo Gardens Public School and then Port Arthur Collegiate.  After leaving school in grade 10, she married Bob Austin and they had 8 children.

Once the children were older, Mom worked as a librarian in the school system then worked in the Optical Dispensary at the Port Arthur Clinic.  Following her work at the clinic she worked as the Secretary/Receptionist for the Public Relations Department of the Salvation Army.  Her final job before retiring was at the City of Thunder Bay Police Department in the Communications Centre where she spent 13 years.  She also volunteered as a Girl Guide leader for several years enjoying her time there immensely.

After the divorce from her first husband Bob, Mom met Jim Seed and they married in 1983.  She and Jim enjoyed travelling east to Newfoundland and west to Calgary to visit children and grandchildren as well all points in between.

Mom was very active in her church (Grace Evangelical Free) for as long as she was able and made many good friends there over the years.

Missing his best friend, is hubby Jim; her children, Debbie Byers, Bruce (Irene) Austin, Dale (Paul) Jansen, Tammie Austin (Al Vinni), Ron Austin, Les Austin, and Becky Mayo (Grant Davidson); stepsons, Darrell (Tammy) Seed, Kerry (Tara) Seed, Ken (Heather) Seed, and Donald Seed; son-in-laws Jerry Mayo and two daughters-in-law, Jennifer Austin and Trish Austin.

Mavis is also survived by her brothers, Jim Birch, Bert (Helen) Birch and Walter (Eila) Birch and brother-in-law Bob (Pat) Seed.

Numerous grandchildren and great children will also miss "Grandma Seed” as well as her many nieces and nephews.

Mavis was predeceased by her son Ian Austin; son-in-law Marvin Byers; sister Virginia Baker; and brothers Bruce Birch and Ron Birch.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at Grace Free Church at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

If friends desire, donations in memory of Mavis can be made to Dorion Bible Camp or MEMO.
