Obituary for Mrs. Anne Vidotto (Rocco)

Passed away peacefully in hospice (Ruddy-Shenkman) in Ottawa on Friday, June 26, 2020, after a brief stay in the Ottawa Hospital. Mrs. Anne Vidotto (nee Rocco), age 103 years of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Anne was born on New Year’s Day 1917 in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), Ontario, to her parents Luigi and Lucia Rocco, originally from Italy. She resided in Thunder Bay until 2015, when she moved to live with family in Ottawa. Beloved mother and grandmother, Anne enjoyed the time spent with her daughter, son, son-in-law and three grandchildren. Always a lover of animals, she also derived a lot of pleasure from the family pets in Ottawa, just as she had from her pets in Thunder Bay.

In her youth, Anne loved school and her close friends. As a young adult she enjoyed going to dances where the local bands played big band jazz, so popular at the time. She was proud to have been an employee of Canadian Car & Foundry (“Can Car”) and Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co., helping to build planes and ships during the war. Later, Anne enjoyed working for Eaton’s Department Store in downtown Port Arthur. Once married, Anne devoted her time and energy to her life at home with her two children and her husband Angelo Vidotto, who passed away in September 2000. She is also predeceased by her brother, Anthony Rocco.

Anne is survived by daughter Rita Carreau (Michel Carreau) and granddaughter Kathryn, as well as by son Corry Vidotto, granddaughter Veronica Vidotto and grandson Michael Vidotto (their mother Christina McMullen), all residing in Ottawa. She is also survived by nephew Leonard Rocco (Marlene) and brother-in-law Giuseppe Vidotto, as well as several nieces and nephews residing in Thunder Bay and elsewhere.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nicole Scherling of Greenboro Family Medicine Centre for the care provided to Anne over the last 5 years. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care Team and all doctors, nurses and staff of the Ottawa Hospital and Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice for such dedicated and compassionate care.

Funeral services are pending in care of EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
