Obituary for Mrs. Mary Barbara Nock (Morrow)

Mrs. Mary Barbara Nock (Morrow)
MARY BARBARA NOCK
June 26, 1954 – April 28, 2017

Mary Barbara (Morrow) Nock passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a long struggle with various problems starting in early 2015 that led to a liver transplant and then a stroke in London, Ontario while at University Hospital. She fought with courage and a great will to live and had made a new life at Hogarth Riverview Manor with frequent outings to restaurants, movies and shopping in her wheelchair.

Mary was a graduate of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce program at Lakehead University at a time when few women enrolled. Mary worked in a variety of professional capacities for the Government of Ontario over a period of decades from the late 1970’s on. She was fascinated by theatre and was a talented actor as well as a superb back stage manager of productions. In addition, she had an excellent soprano voice and was trained by Roman Catholic Nuns in Northeastern Ontario. She was especially adept at 18th century composers such as Handel.

These interests coalesced in her lifelong participation in the Anglican Church of Canada and as a long time parishioner, first at St. Johns and later St. Paul’s. She enjoyed staging religious dramas such as Good Friday’s “Eyes Upon the Cross” and more recently Dickens “A Christmas Carol”. She was a devoted member of the choirs at both churches and frequently sang solos for weddings and funerals. She sang in duets, especially with her close friend Karen Benson. Informally they became known as the Sisters in Song (despite no kinship)!

Survived by husband David (Thunder Bay), brother Kevin Joshua Morrow (Toronto), cousin Florence (Frank) Janzen (Mississauga), and Anna Morrow and family (Ballina, Ireland).

Predeceased by her parents the Rev. Canon Harry and Edith Morrow.

Thank you to Archdeacon Deborah Kraft for her faithful support since 2015 and to good friends Dalibor Misina and Fraser Coull for their assistance.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday May 18 in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 808 Ridgeway St. East with the Archdeacon Deborah Kraft officiating. Interment will take place in Sault Ste. Marie at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.

Donations can be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church earmarked for a new organ or to the charity of your choice.
