DAWSON

Mr. John Walter Dawson age 81 years passed away peacefully in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Friday October 12, 2018 with family by his side following a heartbreaking journey with Alzheimers.

John was born in Toronto on July 14, 1937 to parents Leolla and Herbert Dawson. John grew up and attended school in Southern Ontario.

Johns love for target and combat shooting began at an early age. John was a master shooter in Police Pistol Combat representing the Thunder Bay Police Service in local, provincial, national and international competitions, winning many Grand Aggregates. He was instrumental in building and maintaining ranges and instructing and mentoring many young shooters. John was a founding member of the Thunder Bay Combat Club.

John enjoyed his family, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and camping at Pass Lake and Mawn Lake with family and friends. He enjoyed travelling and spending time at the 55 Plus Centre where he learned his woodworking skills which resulted in many homemade loons and toys which he joyfully donated to many children. His kind and caring spirit was evident as he was always volunteering and giving of himself. John retired as a Staff Sergeant after serving 36 years with RCMP, Port Arthur Police and Thunder Bay Police Service. While serving as an RCMP officer John met his future wife Beverley. They married in 1960 and moved to Port Arthur where they soon started their family.

John in survived by his wife Beverley, children Brenda (Ken) and John (Anne), grandchildren Jason (Krissy), Lyndzie (Kevin), Adam (Jacquie), great grand children Makya, Cruze, Hailey, Makenna, Addisyn and Grayson and nieces Valerie and Donna. Predeceased by his parents, sister Anne and in-laws Mary, Benny and Elsie.

The family would like to thank the staff of Manor House, TBRHSC and Hogarth Riverview Manor (Daffodil North) for the excellent care during his illness. He was always treated with compassion and respect.

Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Society (Thunder Bay branch) would be gratefully appreciated.

We will love and miss you forever.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
