"Pappa Joe"

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Giuseppe Stefanile, or Pappa Joe to his friends and close loved ones. Mr. Giuseppe Stefanile, age 65 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Giuseppe was a simple man. He loved his wife Carpinella, his son Sammy, his daughter-in-law Mersiha and granddaughter Maya, his dog Daisy (and his previous dog, Coco), as well as all his cats - especially Tita. He loved them all unconditionally and always looked out for them, making sure they were well taken care of. He was married to his wife, Carpinella, for 42 of his 65 years, and like any loving and long-time married couple, they had their disagreements, but at the end of the day it was their love for each other that kept them going.

Late in life, Giuseppe found another love — becoming a fruit farmer out at his beloved camp on Highway 61. There was a special sense of pride that emanated from him whenever he talked about his apple orchard. Apple lovers from all over Thunder Bay, as well as the United States, would come to buy his apples, but they would leave with much more. A history of the apple orchard, tales of special varieties he grafted himself, and most importantly, a new friend. It was hard to leave Pappa Joe's Apple Orchard and Fruit Farm without feeling like you were the most important customer in the world to him. But he never treated people as customers, but rather as friends.

Giuseppe was a man who always wanted to be treated as an equal. If he didn't like you, he didn't like you. But if he liked you, he absolutely loved you. And he was a very giving man. If you asked for the shirt off his back, not only would he give you his shirt, but he'd also give you his pants, belt, socks, shoes, and then he'd ask you if you needed anything else. While Giuseppe is no longer with us, the memories he left in people's hearts will make it seem like he's always with us — the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.

Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife, Carpinella and son, Sammy; his daughter-in-law Mersiha Musovic, his granddaughter Maya Musovic, his brothers Angelo and Mario, sisters-in-law Concetta and Anna, his many nieces and nephews in Italy, and his best friends Anna Marchese and Tony La Manna.

Giuseppe was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore Stefanile and Rosa Barone, his younger brother Gennaro, and his first dog, Coco.
