Obituary for Mrs. Wladyslawa Mary Stefanowski

Mrs. Wladyslawa “Mary” Stefanowski, age 98 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, August 2, 2018 with family by her side.

Wladyslawa was born in Klonowiec, Poland on February 20, 1920. During World War II she was taken against her will to work at a camp in Germany from 1940 to 1945. It was there she met her husband Boleslaw. Once the war was over, they were married. Boleslaw came to Canada in 1948 to start a new life and Wladyslawa joined him there in 1950.

Over the years she worked in the cafeterias in St. Joseph's Hospital and Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and later on she worked for Port Arthur Polish Hall Limited, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady Queen of Poland Church for 68 years.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending time in her garden. She loved when her family would visit her. Right up until her passing she lived life to the fullest and was very independent.

Wladyslawa will be greatly missed by her niece Bozena (Krzysztof) Kardacz and great-niece Cassandra Kardacz (Gregory Filograna). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Poland.

She was predeceased by her husband Boleslaw in 1983 and her parents Anna and Wladyslaw Dogadalski.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Mary's Our Lady Queen of Poland Church. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Our Lady Queen of Poland Church or the Northern Cardiac Fund.
