It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Laurina Tropea announce her peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Care Group on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

Laurina was born on October 3, 1918 in Motta di Rovito, Provincia of Cosenza, Italy.  She immigrated to Canada in 1964 with her two sons, Nicola and Frank to join her husband Vincenzo aspiring to build a new life.

Laurina was a very special person to many.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.  As the matriarch of the Tropea family, she devoted her life to the well-being of her family.  Her children and grandchildren looked to her for her wisdom and guidance and she was respected and loved dearly by each of them.  Laurina had the ability to make friends easily. Everyone that came in contact with her fell in love with her, resulting in numerous life-long friendships.  She was always willing to listen, give advice and to share life lessons. Laurina was a strong-willed, independent, smart and kind woman who lived her life with an unwavering faith and belief in God.

Laurina was adept at many things.  She was a talented gardener, baker and cook.  She taught herself how to knit and crochet and gifted her loved ones with her beautiful creations.  She enjoyed watching her favourite soap operas, Italian television, Sunday soccer games and spending quality time with family and friends.

Laurina leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Anna Trombino (Italo), her son Nicola, her daughter in-law Anna, 11 grandchildren: Filomena (Jeffrey), Stano (Erin),  Dino, Anita, Lory (Tony), Diana (Shawn), Susan (Tony), Nick (Lisa), Lisa, Vince (Luigina), Frank (Kailey) and 19 great grandchildren.  

She was predeceased by her loving husband Vincenzo, son Frank, daughter-in-law Antonietta, mother Barbara Caferro, father Nicola Gallo, seven siblings: Antonietta, Amelia, Assuntina, Maria, Rosina, Guiseppe and Giovanni along with numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws.  

Funeral services for the late Laurina Tropea will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, at 9:50 A.M. for the Funeral Mass at 10:30 A. M. in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P. M. with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00 PM in the Chapel.
