Obituary for Mr. Raymond Steve Kundrat

Mr. Raymond Steve Kundrat
Raymond Steve Kundrat

With great sadness and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Raymond Steve Kundrat, on Monday, June 25, 2018 surrounded by his entire family, at the age of 77. We lost our kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Ray was born to John and Julie Kundrat on September 15, 1940 in McIntyre Township, spending his entire life on the land he loved. He started his career as a Grain Handler at Richardson Elevator, then moved to Saskatchewan Pool 4 and finally to Pool 7, working in the control room until his retirement 27 years ago.

Ray met the love of his life, Helen (nee Shubaly) in 1956, and in April they celebrated their 57th anniversary. Together they raised 3 children, Raymond, Karen (Bob) Capricci and Dale (Michelle) and adored their grandchildren Troy, Justin, and Tristin.

He had a love for animals and raised his own beef until 2000. Ray was happiest working outdoors, cutting his own wood and being in his garden. We were just reminded that we could eat our first new potatoes on July 23rd. He enjoyed plowing snow on his John Deere tractor, which he did for many neighbours, and riding around on his "Big Red." Ray was proud of his 1952 Mercury and belonged to the Lakehead Antique Car Club. He spent many Fridays in the Gift Shop at St. Joseph's Hospital, selling tickets and helping Helen. Ray loved travelling, taking many trips to visit family in the U.S.A and Winnipeg or bus trips to various casinos. When Ray and Helen celebrated their 50th Anniversary, they shared a memorable trip to Hawaii. Ray enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays, Raptors and Maple Leafs, playing cards with the Gernats and the many visits with Carol Blady (his angel).

Ray was predeceased by his parents John and Julie and his sisters Mary Harapiak and Olga Kruskowski.

Funeral services for the late Raymond Kundrat will be held on Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Catholic Church (5045 Townline Road), celebrated by Father Randall Morriseau. All services will be complete in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Unit (for a Large Bore CT Scanner) St. Augustine/St. Theresa Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
