Obituary for
Mrs. Theresa Louise Trottier
Theresa Trottier, age 77 years passed away peacefully in the TBRHSC with her children by her side.
Theresa was born in Keego, Ontario and grew up on Long Lake #58 Reserve (Longlac, Ontario). She was a survivor of the residential school system which impacted her in her adult life. She rarely spoke of this experience. As stories emerged, you recognized the resiliency of her strong character. Miigwitch Auntie Eulalia for sharing memories from this time. Theresa was fiercely independent, strong willed and outspoken. Theresa loved to laugh and is known for her teasing and having fun.
Theresa met the love of her life, Louis Trottier and together they raised their family in Thunder Bay. She enjoyed camping, fishing, going to bingo and spending time with family. In her later years, Theresa explored the world travelling through Europe, Israel, The Caribbean and Alaska, making friends easily along the way. Only when her health started to decline did she slow down. Theresa was a member of the Catholic Women's League of Canada and took these duties seriously. As a devout Catholic, Theresa was a member of St. Andrew's R. C. Church and the Kateri Church. Theresa was also a Eucharistic minister. She believed in a life of service.
Theresa cherished family most of all. She was selfless with her time and always said “I love you” after a phone call, and she would kiss you goodbye. When Theresa gave you a hug, she meant it and you knew it. She loved all children and regardless of if she knew them or not, would smile, engage and make them feel special.
Theresa is survived by her daughter Sandra (Wayne), son Jason, grandchildren Melissa and Danielle and great grandchildren Tristen, Jaylyn and Sydney.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1999.
