With great sadness and sorrow we must announce the passing of our mother, Slavka Litwinenko (nee Suligoj), age 88 years, on March 25, 2018 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after fighting a long battle with cancer.

Slavka was born in Gorica, Slovenia on July 5, 1929 to Frank and Katerina Suligoj. She emigrated to Canada in May of 1955 with her 7 year old daughter Zori to join her husband Stanko Podbrscek. Slavka worked for Abitibi Paper Company as a cook's assistant from 1955 to 1956. She lived in Current River, raising 5 children. She tended a beautiful garden which she was very proud of. Her garden was included on the city's garden tour.

Slavka was predeceased by her first husband Stanko Podbrscek in 1966 and her second husband Nikolai Litwinenko in 2000.

She is survived by her children Zori Hopkins (Gord), Catherine Ferguson (William), Marko Litwinenko (Candace), Nick Litwinenko and Kristina Litwinenko Wright; grandchildren Julie, Lesley, Stephen, Jason, Michael, Zachary, Chrystal, Rochelle, Brandin, Summer and Sasha; as well as numerous lovely great grandchildren.

Funeral Mass with be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 3:00pm in Our Lady of Loretto Church (290 Grenville Avenue), celebrated by Fr. Francis Pudicherry. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
