Obituary for Mrs. Myra Evelyn Thompson (Wickman)

Mrs. Myra Evelyn Thompson (Wickman)
MYRA EVELYN THOMPSON
JULY 14, 1938 – FEBRUARY 21, 2018

Mrs. Myra Thompson, age 79 years, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Myra was born on July 14, 1938 in Port Arthur, Ontario and was a life-long resident.

Myra had a generous, open heart and loved to cook and bake for family and friends; to feed you was to love you. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was so important to her. Taking them on adventures, dance and swimming lessons, encouraging them, and cheering on their individual and family accomplishments. Myra and Tim liked travelling, Myra "endured"  the plane rides to Vegas and out West to visit family. Through her work life Myra made many friends. In her early years she worked at The Prince Arthur Hotel and Arthur Cafe, both of which she really enjoyed.  However because of health issues she enrolled in Confederation College and next  went to work for Port Arthur Civic Employees Credit Union, where she worked until retirement.

Myra's faith was unwavering, she was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church. She was a choir member, and held the position of secretary to the Board. Myra enjoyed volunteering with Lutheran Community Care Centre, Shelter House Thunder Bay-both in the kitchen and serving on the Board. She had a passion for baking for community events like, The Strawberry Festival at Christ Lutheran Church and The Harvest Festival at Lappe Lutheran Church and many many others. She spent many hours playing board games with whoever would join in. Her creativity could be seen through her various craft projects; ceramics, making teddy bears, woodworking, painting and quilting. She enjoyed starting her garden flowers from seed. Tim learned to do many things he never imagined he would be learning to do. Myra spent many hours praying for family and friends, she was a true prayer warrior.

Myra is survived by her loving husband Cecil “Tim”; children, Terri (Warren) Eacrett of Invermere, BC, Mel (Kathleen) of Calgary, AB, Rhonda (Harry) Brown and Susan (Robert) Corbett of Estevan, SK; grandchildren, Mike (Betty-Ann), Stephen, Ryan (Sheryl), Clark (Melissa), Derek, Stephanie, Megan (Kyle), Andrew, Nathan, Allison (Ben), Sarah and Kayla; five great grandchildren; brother Wayne Alanko and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Predeceased by her parents, Eino Wickman and Martha Alanko; brothers Melvin, Ron, Percy and Gerry and Parents in-law Steve and Clara Thompson.

Heartfelt thank you to Hilka, Myra's primary home-care nurse. All of her nurses were compassionate and respectful, but Hilka was special to Myra. Thank you to Dr. Kevin Miller for your care, allowing her to remain at home until the end.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Myra Thompson will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, February 26, 2018 in Epiphany Lutheran Church (499 Dewe Ave) with Pastor Steven Bartlett officiating. Private interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00PM until 4:00PM on Sunday afternoon in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church, Lutheran Community Care Centre or Shelter House Thunder Bay.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
