It is with heavy hearts, that the family of Rosa Cerqueira announce her passing after a courageous battle with cancer. Rosa passed away at the TBRHSC on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 85 years with her family by her side.

Born on October 11, 1932 in Ponte da Barca, Portugal, she later immigrated to Canada with her family in 1980 where she worked for many years for Bennett's Bakery, until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Rosa would spend many hours outdoors in the summer, tending to her garden, and taking long walks. She also loved spending time back in Portugal where she would reminisce about her youth with her siblings.

Rosa is survived by her 7 children, Jose (Gina), Manuel (Diana), Frank, Victor (Colleen), Maria (Daniel), Angelina (Rui), and Cristina (Enzo); 19 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 7 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jose Maria and Angelina Da Costa; Joao, her husband of 51 years; and her son Antonio.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who took great care of her during her time spent at the TBRHSC.

Funeral services for Rosa Cerqueira will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018, leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, at 9:30 am for Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi R.C. Church celebrated by Fr. Victor De Gagne. Services complete in the church with final interment to take place in Portugal. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Everest Chapel, with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00 pm.
