Obituary for Mr. Stanley "Stan" Harold Bouchie
It is with heavy hearts the family of Stan Bouchie announce his passing after a courageous battle with kidney disease and associated complications. Stan passed peacefully at the TBRHSC on January 16th, 2018, 11:30 p.m. with his family by his side.
Stan was born on January 22nd, 1937 in Fort William. At the age of two he was adopted by Pat and Florence Bouchie and grew up in the Lake Helen area. After the passing of Pat Bouchie, Florence remarried Michael Nindaba, the man who taught him traditional Nishnaabe values and who he respected immensely.
In 1963, Stan began working with the Marathon Pulp mill; where he obtained his electrical ticket in the mid 1970’s. He spent the remainder of his career as a mill electrician, retiring in 1995.
Stan led a very active life, playing and watching sports and as recent as last summer could be found rain or shine on the Marathon Golf Course.
He spent most of his childhood and teen years fishing, trapping and hunting to help support his family. It was during this time, that he developed his fondness of being in the bush. This love continued throughout his life, he would take advantage of every opportunity to explore the outdoors, sharing this love with his children and more recently his beloved granddaughter.
Stan was born Nishnaabe, lived his life with values of Nishnaabe ways and left this world a proud Nishnaabe man.
Stan will be dearly missed by Audrey, his wife of 53 years, daughter Lila and son in law Keith, son Warren, daughter Debi and his pride and joy, his granddaughter McKenzy. And numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Stan's Life will be held on Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Saviour Parish in Marathon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marathon Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street in Thunder Bay.
