Mr. Richard Barry “Sab” Harmatiuk, age 54 years, passed away peacefully at his home in Red Rock, on Saturday, October 21, 2017 with his family by his side.

Richard was born in Nipigon on January 27, 1963 to Peter and Joan Harmatiuk. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, quadding and animals such as partridge and squirrels. His favourite place was Black Sturgeon River and many fond memories were made at that spot. Richard was stubborn, but had a great sense of humour and a heart of gold. He was truly dedicated to his daughters and grandchildren and loved their visits.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Erica Mickelson (Jeremiah) and Samantha Kerzonski; grandchildren Abigail, Johnathan, Caleb, Saige, Savannah and Sianna; parents Joan (nee Cormier) and Pete Harmatiuk; brothers Peter and Michael (Cheryl) Harmatiuk; sisters Joyanne (Ron) Jeffrey and Cindy (Brian) Liddicoat as well as his good friends Relic, Mike and Austin “Minnie.” Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Melinda Cormier as well as his other grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles and an infant brother, John.

A Celebration of Richard's Life will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at the Red Rock Inn. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Richard to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
