Obituary for Mr. Juho Maenpaa

Mr. Juho Maenpaa
JUHO IISAKKI MAENPAA
January 13, 1935 – August 5, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Juho (“John”/ “Jussi”), age 82 years, announce his sudden passing.

Jussi will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Marja-Leena (Murtomaki); son Juho Timothy (Bobbi), daughter Katherine Marjaana; grandchildren Nicholas Adam, Amanda May, Juho Tomas, and Noah Brayden; brother Leo (Sanna)(Finland) and sisters Leena (Sweden) and Pirkko (Teuvo) (Finland); aunt Aili Ahola (Finland); nephews Janne, Marko (Finland), Jarkko (Sweden) and their families, as well as many other relatives in Finland, Canada and the USA.

Jussi was born in Sievi, Finland and grew up on the family farm. Upon completion of military service he moved to Kokkola where he studied and became an electrician. He immigrated to Port Arthur in June 1957, where he would make his home for the next 60 years.

Jussi continued his career at various jobs and obtained his diploma in “General Electrical Engineering” in 1968 while working at Peterson Electric. He continued his studies, attending night school while working for Abitibi-Price and obtained his Electrical Engineering diploma from Confederation College. Jussi retired in 1990. He had been a member of OACETT for 30 years.

His interests included current affairs, sports, stamp and coin collecting, RC model air planes and most recently, teaching himself Spanish. He most liked spending time with his family, especially the grandkids, and at camp on Dog Lake.

Jussi was very responsible, hard working and dedicated to his family. He was known for being strongly opinionated but was kind with a good heart.

Jussi was predeceased by his parents Juho Wilhelm and Sanni Rauha Maenpaa; his baby sister Aulikki Maenpaa; mother-in-law Maria Murtomaki, father-in-law Arvo Murtomaki and brother-in-law Arnold Murtomaki.

Funeral services for the late Juho Maenpaa will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Juho to the Arthritis Society, Hilldale Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
