Obituary for Mr. Elek Szeglet

SZEGLET

Mr. Elek Szeglet, age 81 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice on Friday, May 19, 2017 with his family by his side.

Elek was born in Kehida, Hungary on July 6, 1935 and immigrated to Canada in 1956. He worked in English River for the railroad before moving to the Red Lake area, where he worked in the gold mines, until retirement in 2000. Elek married Eva Csapo on March 8, 1969 and together they raised their family. He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, gardening and picking mushrooms and blueberries. Family was Elek's main focus and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Elek is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva; children Elmer, Shirley (Darren) Laewetz and Frank (Laura); grandchildren Alex and Emily Szeglet, Josh and Luke Laewetz and Teresa Szeglet.

He was predeceased by his parents, Elek and Rosalia; sister Magdelora and brother Frank.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held in Red Lake at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Elek to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
